HI98190 Family of Portables
The HI98190 family of meters are the most advanced waterproof portables that we offer. These meters have a large, backlit, dot matrix LCD that provides an intuitive user interface while operating the meter. These portable meters have many features that are frequently found on benchtop instrumentation. These features include:
- CAL Check to alert the user of potential problems during the calibration process
- GLP data for the date, time, buffers, offset and slope of the last calibration that is automatically stored with logged measurements
- Log on Demand of up to 100 samples that can downloaded using the micro-USB cable
- Up to five-point calibration using pre-defined or custom pH buffer values
HI99100 Family of Portables
The HI99100 family of waterproof portables are for users that prefer simplified operation. The HI99100 meters have only two buttons to use. The left button is used for calibration and meter configuration. The right button is used to make configuration changes and to free the reading on the meter. The HI99100 family uses a quick connect DIN connector that allows for both pH and temperature readings to be transferred to the meter with a single cable and connection. These portable meters offer many features including:
- Probe condition indicator that alerts the user of the health of the pH electrode
- Simultaneous display of pH and Temperature
- Calibration, low battery, and stability tags
- Automatic one or two point calibration to standard and NIST pH buffers
Basic pH meters
The basic meters include a variety of meters that range from manual calibration through trimmers to advanced meters with CAL Check to identify issues with the probe during the calibration process. Many of these meters use a universal BNC connector that allows any probe with a matching BNC connector to be used. Most of the meters have a mV mode for measuring ORP.
Portable pH/ISE meters are available in multiple designs and features. The portables include versions with BNC connectors for ISEs and are available with direct concentration readout or those that use the mV scale. The portable with direct ion concentration readout features:
- ISE's ion weight and charge pre-programmed for Molarity measurements
- Up to five-point calibration with 6 pre-programmed standards
- Concentration readout as ppm, ppt, g/L, ppb, ?g/L, mg/mL, M, mol/L, mmol/L, % w/v, and user defined
EC/TDS/Salinity Portable Meters
Portable EC/TDS/Salinity meters are available in multiple designs and features.
Portable Meters with Potentiometric Probe
The following portable meters use the potentiometric (four ring) version of probes. This technology allows for a wide range of measurement using a single probe. Portable meters available include versions with manual calibration and manual selection of ranges and versions with automatic calibration and automatic range selection. Portables are available with multiple measuring modes including EC, TDS, salinity, and resistivity. Meters include both those with automatic calibration and others with manual calibration using trimmers.
Portable Meters with Amperometric Probe
The following portable meters use amperometric (two-electrode) version of probes. With this technology the ranges are limited to either a low or high range version.
Dissolved Oxygen Portable Meters
Dissolved oxygen portable meters are available with either Clark-Type Polarograhic, Galvanic and Optical technologies. Each has their benefits with regards to measurement and maintenance. Portable DO meters are available with automatic or manual calibration, automatic or manual input altitude (barometric pressure) compensation and manual input of salinity for compensation. Meters are available with built-in BOD algorithm for calculating the BOD after two measurements, taken 5 days apart, are made.

Multiparameter portable meters have the ability to measure multiple parameters including pH, ORP, dissolved oxygen, conductivity, turbidity, temperature, pressure, and specific ions with the use of either chloride, ammonium or nitrate ISE.
The multiparameter meters can be broken down into three main categories.
- pH and EC meters that use an amperometric probe
- Multiparameter meters that include pH and EC meters that use an potentiometric probe
- Portable meters that measure a single parameter but can be upgraded to measure another parameter
Many meters that measure conductivity allow other units to be displayed including Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), resistivity, and salinity.
pH/EC Portable Meters with Amperometric Probe
The following portable meters use an amperometric (two-electrode) technology to measure conductivity. With this technology the ranges are limited to either a low or high range version. A variety of pH/EC portable meters are available including application specific versions for water treatment, agriculture, and hydroponics. Also included in this category is a portable with a pH/ORP probe.
Multiparameter Meters that Include pH/EC Versions with a Potentiometric Probe
The following portable meters include versions that use a potentiometric (four-electrode) probe for measuring conductivity and the interpreted parameters; TDS, salinity, and resistivity. This technology allows for a wide range of measurement using a single probe. Many multiparameter meters include the conductivity measurement and also versions without the EC technology.
The top of the line multiparameter meter can measure turbidity and specific ions with a nitrate, ammonium, or chloride ISE. This meter also offers a GPS option that tags logged data with GPS coordinates for viewing results with Google maps. Also available to use with the meter is an autonomously logging probe that can be deployed to log data without the handheld meter. This is ideal for remote monitoring for environmental compliance.
Portable Meters Upgradeable to Measure Other Parameters
The last category is for meters that measure a single parameter but can use other probes to measure other parameters. These meters use digital probes that perform the measurement and then transfer the data digitally to the handheld device.
